Pair Of Contemporary Decorative Blown Glass Candlesticks, Inspired By The 17th Century.
A very elegant pair of contemporary decorative blown glass candlesticks, in the tradition of Venetian-style glassware that circulated throughout Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries and was widely adopted in the decorative arts of the Grand Siècle, during the Baroque period. The slender silhouette rests on a circular, domed base, broadly flared and gadrooned, surmounted by a baluster stem with rhythmic bulges—a formal vocabulary directly inherited from the blown glass candlesticks and tableware produced in Murano and subsequently imitated in the major European glassmaking centers (France, the Netherlands, Bohemia). This type of composition, alternating solid and delicate lines, is characteristic of the 17th-century Baroque aesthetic, which sought verticality, elegance, and plays of light. Comparable antique pieces are held in public collections and regularly offered at auction, particularly stemmed glasses and candlesticks in the Venetian style that feature the same treatment of the domed base and baluster stem. These candlesticks are a high-end, contemporary interpretation of antique designs, faithful to their proportions and decorative spirit, while benefiting from modern glassblowing that offers beautiful transparency and excellent legibility of the volumes. They have been converted into lamps: the electrical wiring is new and completely removable, allowing the candlesticks to be returned to their original function without altering the glass. The custom-made conical lampshades are upholstered in 18th-century-inspired floral fabric in soft, balanced tones, harmoniously emphasizing the vertical lines of the room. These lamps will find their place naturally in a classic or 18th-century interior, but also in a contemporary setting seeking an elegant and decorative historical reference. Dimensions: Total height: 50 cm Height of candlestick alone: 33 cm Diameter of candlestick base: 16.5 cm Diameter of lampshades: 30 cm
