Pair Of Medallion Mirrors, Italian Craftsmanship, Second Half Of The 18th Century.

A pair of oval mirrors made of carved, openwork, and gilded softwood.

The beveled glass panels are framed by a slender molded border, engraved with a stylized interlaced pattern forming a continuous chain of oval links.

Surrounding this is a delicate openwork design of leafy and flowering branches, punctuated by flowers and enlivened by gentle C-shaped curls.
The carving unfolds with a deliberate asymmetry around the oval: some branches are set back from the band, while a few leaves and flowers occasionally overlap its edge.

Despite the richness of the plant motifs, the design remains particularly light and balanced. The numerous openwork spaces between the branches lend the whole piece an airy quality, without ever overshadowing the mirror surfaces.

Due to their design—and in particular the treatment of the frame, engraved with an interlacing pattern of oval links—these mirrors can be compared to works from central Italy dating from the second half of the 18th century.

Both mirrors retain their original gilding and their original beveled glass, which likely dates back to the time of their creation, showing a few slight stains and pitting on the tin.

In good overall condition, with some wear to the gilding and minor imperfections.
