Four-poster Canopy Bed In Painted Beech, Louis XVI Period.
Elegant four-poster bed known as "à la française", in carved beech and painted in an off-white tone, slightly patinated and matte. It rests on four tapered and fluted legs, connected by molded crosspieces. The headboard and footboard, curved and molded, perfectly translate the aesthetic of the Louis XVI style, combining balance, straightness and refinement. The four slender columns support a rectangular molded canopy, decorated with a canopy, slopes and curtains. This bed comes from the old stock of an upholsterer: acquired as is, it has been completely restored, including the woodwork, painting, textile upholstery and bedding. The bed is easily disassembled: it is assembled by four 18th century lag screws connecting the bedside tables to the crosspieces. The originals having disappeared, real old lag screws were found and adapted, restoring the original assembly system. The upholstery is new, custom-made in red toile de Jouy from the house of Casal, accompanied by coordinated trimmings (fringes, tiebacks and pompoms). The curtains are hung from a steel rod made especially for this bed, fixed to the original fixing pins. Other pins allow, if desired, to add additional rods to complete the dressing. A robust bed base was custom-made, accompanied by a new mattress (27 cm thick), also made to order, guaranteeing modern comfort. The wood has been treated against wood-boring insects, ensuring the longevity of the furniture. This model is similar to the example preserved at the Château de Boussac (Creuse), stamped Jean-Baptiste Lelarge, which has a similar structure with columns and curved bedside tables.
