Nepal, late 19th - early 20th century, a beautiful and unusual painted papier-mâché Bhairava mask. Bhairava, whose name means "frightening," is a wrathful form of the Hindu god Shiva. He is depicted in a menacing pose, with an open mouth and bulging eyes. His headdress is adorned with Citipati heads. Dimensions: Height 15 x Width 12 cm. The scale reference in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a well-known brand. Good condition apart from normal wear to the polychromy due to age.
