"Regency Period Armchair With High Back, Early 18th Century"
Large Regency period armchair with a high back, carved from natural wood, early 18th century. This chair rests on four elegantly carved cabriole legs. The recessed armrests feature attractive, flowing detailing. The wide, high back is decorated with delicate garland and shell motifs, echoing the work on the front rail. This armchair is in good condition, with some minor wear and tear. We note a repair/filling that creates a slight difference in tone on the sides of the seat rail (see photos 7 and 8). The upholstery is in very good condition and relatively recent; the seat is firm and comfortable. The anise green fabric with a foliate pattern has two fairly large stains on the seat and the top of the back; it will therefore need cleaning or replacement (see photo 11).
