Large Regency/louis XV Period Flat-backed Armchair, Queen Anne Style, Early 18th Century
Large and comfortable Regency period armchair in natural waxed wood, dating from the early 18th century. The chair rests on four console legs, the armrests are set back, and its wide, flat back offers perfect comfort. A discreet small shell motif is carved on the front rail. This rare armchair perfectly illustrates the transition from the Louis XIV style, here marked by the legs reminiscent of "sheep's bone" shapes, to the Louis XV style, much more characterized by the movement of the back, the scalloped work of the rail, and the shell carving. This chair, with its solid frame, is perfectly stable and in good condition. The woodwork has a few small, discreet losses (see photos), and some traditional wax repairs have been carried out in places on the legs (see photos). The upholstery is also in good condition, and the seat is comfortable. The pale yellow velvet fabric shows a few tiny signs of wear, but these do not affect its appearance. Superb patina.
