"Gm Rossetti Valentini (1796-1878), Bust-length Portrait Of A Man, Graphite And Red Chalk"
Beautiful 18th century bust portrait of a man by Giovanni Maria Rossetti Valentini, dated 1810. Giovanni Maria Rossetti Valentini (1796-1878) first made a career in France, where he spent a good part of his life as a prestigious painter and teacher. He returned to Italy in the 1860s and decided to create an art school at his own expense in the town of Santa Maggiore, where he taught for free for several years. Quickly recognized, the Rossetti Valentini School of Fine Arts still exists today and is also a museum. This school is particularly known for having trained famous Italian portrait painters. The drawing we present here is therefore a very interesting early work for the artist, who was then only fourteen years old. The talent and maturity of the line are already visible in this portrait made in graphite and red chalk. It is signed, annotated, and dated 1810 at the bottom left of the drawing. Work in very good condition. A small foxing on the character's clothing. Drawing presented framed under glass in a gilded wooden frame decorated with a discreet row of pearls around its entire perimeter and showing tiny little wear. Dimensions: With frame: 55.5cm x 46.5cm Drawing alone, visible: 37cm x 29cm
