Regency Wingback Armchair In Giltwood, France, Early 18th Century
A Regency period wing chair in carved and gilded wood, France, early 18th century. A beautiful example with finely carved decoration of shells, interlacing patterns, and foliate elements, characteristic of the Regency style. The lines are elegant, the proportions harmonious, with cabriole legs and a molded seat rail. The chair is upholstered in a 19th-century floral tapestry depicting a vase of flowers. The tapestry shows visible wear, particularly on the seat, with areas of weakness and losses, consistent with the age and use of the piece. The original gilding shows rubbing, wear, and losses, revealing the underlying preparation in places, giving it a beautiful original patina. The chair is stable and sturdy, ready for use or display. A decorative piece with character, ideal for a classic or eclectic interior. Seat height 41 cm
