Large Antique Handwoven Cushion – Scandinavian Tapestry
A stunning, large cushion made from an antique hand-woven Scandinavian textile dating from the early 20th century (circa 1920–1940). The piece combines a midnight blue wool weave with dense embroidery in traditional colors: madder red, moss green, ivory, and deep blue.
The design draws on the folk art of southern Sweden and Finland: large geometric crosses, stylized four-petaled flowers, central diamonds, and repeating borders. Originally, this type of textile adorned rural interiors as wall hangings or bench covers.
The corners are finished with small knotted tassels, a typically Nordic detail.
A large decorative piece, entirely hand-woven, now mounted as a pillow—a rare and inviting one-of-a-kind piece.
