Rare headdress in very good condition. Minor wear consistent with age.
It is made of cardboard covered with black leather and dark blue cloth with red piping.
The front is adorned with a silvered copper frontal plate in the shape of a radiant sun, with a brass rooster at its center—the emblem of the July Monarchy. As well as a French cocard made of leather and metal (later repainted).
The sides are embellished with two silvered copper lion masks for attaching the chin strap which consists of a metal chain mounted on black leather.
The visor is made of black leather decorated with a vegetal scrolls and edged with a silvered copper band.
The liner is also made of black leather.
Long falling plume of madder-red horsehair very similar to that worn by lancers (but originaly for a shako of the mounted artillery).
