"18th Century Painted Silk, Louis XV And Louis XVI Period, 18th Century Frame, Gallant Scene, Children, Garland Of Roses"
A lively genre scene of children playing cards and figures smoking or drinking, painted on silk and framed by a very fine and delicate garland of roses and foliage. This painted silk exemplifies the refinement of the 18th century, in a typically Rococo style, inspired by the works of painters of gallant or bucolic scenes of that era, such as Jean-Baptiste Huet, Fragonard, and Watteau. This particularly fine garland of flowers and foliage is found throughout the Rococo style, in textiles, woodwork, porcelain, and decorative arts of the period. The quality of execution and the mastery of silk painting reveal a precious work, characteristic of the aristocratic taste of the Age of Enlightenment. This genre scene is presented in its original 18th-century giltwood frame decorated with carved beads. It is in its original condition; I have not opened it. The scene is protected by its original glass. Note a missing wooden bead in the lower left corner and a small crease in the tree in the upper left corner. Nothing serious for such an old and precious object. On the lower part of the frame, on the back, a name is engraved: A. LAMBERT. This may be the name of the talented artist who painted this delicate scene. Dimensions with frame: 36.50 cm x 31.50 cm. Image size: 28 cm x 23.50 cm.
