Paul Bonnaud Limoges Art Nouveau Enamel Vase, Circa 1900, Blue With Chrysanthemum Flowers, Japanese Enamel, Japan
Artist: Paul Bonnaud
Limoges enamel soliflore vase by Paul Bonnaud (1873-1953). This artist is one of the emblematic figures of the revival of Limoges enamel during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Paul Bonnaud is one of the most sought-after artists of the Limoges school. He was awarded the Grand Prize at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition. His works are on display at the Limoges Museum of Fine Arts and are currently featured in the temporary exhibition "Limoges Art Deco." This vase, with its swirling decoration and complex shape, is a true technical feat. The artist used the silver foil technique to give it incomparable brilliance, shine, and luminosity. The blue background with cobalt and turquoise highlights particularly well showcases the bright orange chrysanthemums and the vibrant green foliage. The flowers and foliage are raised in places. The vase is signed on the base in gold lettering: "P. BONNAUD" and marked "Limoges". Dimensions: 12 cm high x 8 cm wide.
