This talented painter was a student of Jacques-Louis David and Baron Gros. He often depicted Emperor Napoleon I and his family. A naval officer and history painter, he became the official professor of topography for the Imperial Guard. This elegant young woman is shown wearing a ball gown adorned with fine lace, a hairstyle fashionable during the reign of Louis Philippe, and precious jewelry that signifies her social standing.
