Engraving by Joseph BOZE (1745 - 1826), representing the portrait of King Louis XVI, assassinated on January 21, 1793 by revolutionaries. This engraving, presented in a large, restored gilt and stuccoed wooden frame, has never been opened. It appears that the text beneath the portrait of Louis XVI is missing, perhaps removed to allow the king's portrait to be displayed in this imposing frame. The frame shows some stucco loss, which has been regilded, meaning it can be hung as is, with the signs of age minimized. The engraving is protected by its original bubble glass, which is cracked in the small corner at the bottom right. This engraving is in its original condition. Dimensions with frame: 44 cm x 39.5 cm.
