"19th Century Gold-plated Rogatka Fertility Bracelet"
This spectacular open bangle is a Rogatka, a fertility bracelet traditionally worn in pairs by Bulgarian brides. Made of hollow cast metal (bronze or copper alloy) and then gold-plated, it is decorated with the traditional motif of twisted ribs in the center, framed by two ornamented half-spheres. The decoration continues onto the widened ends of the opening. Symbols or a signature are inscribed on the edge of one end (photo 9).
A casting vent hole is present on each large half-sphere. Much more common in silver alloy, it is rare to find a gold-plated example! A spectacular piece in excellent condition with a beautiful patina and a soft luster. Intended for a slender wrist.
Note: slight cracks in the metal on the back, near the inscription, which do not affect its wear. Bulgaria, late 19th/early 20th century.
