18th Century Vermeil Bottle Case, Louis XV Period, Decorated With Putti.
This beautiful case, richly decorated in the Rococo style on a textured background, is adorned with scenes of putti. On one side, a cherub holds flowers, and on the other, a mirror. The hinged, push-button lid features a house motif within a frame of scrolls and foliage on one side. Inside, it contains a faceted, cut-glass crystal bottle engraved with two eight-pointed star motifs, complete with its stopper. The silver is vermeil (gilt silver) and unmarked, but tested with a touchstone. The bottle is likely not original but its dimensions are suitable. The gilding is vibrant and the lid closes perfectly. In perfect condition! Louis XV period, circa 1760.
