Near Eastern Bronze Goddess Astarte Ishtar I Phoenician, Levantine Or Mesopotamian

A solid-cast Near Eastern bronze nude goddess, dating to the 1st millennium BC. This finely modelled votive figure represents a frontal female divinity in the long-standing Astarte / Ishtar tradition, with the characteristic modest pose, emphasised navel, and serene expression known from Levantine and Phoenician cult imagery.

She wears a high turreted (mural-style) crown, a feature strongly associated with the City-Goddess / Tyche of the Near Eastern and Hellenistic worlds. Rosette motifs appear on the rear of the crown and on the central medallion of the braided pectoral band—classic symbols linked to Ishtar/Astarte across the Near East.

The bronze is cast solid, with an excellent ancient surface and mineralised patina.

Provenance: Purchased in the 1960s from Ronald Summerfield, Cheltenham.
