Vase With A Pair Of Monkeys, Peru, Chimu, Chimu, 10th To 15th Century, Pre-columbian Culture.
A rare vessel - a bottle depicting a couple of monkeys copulating in an embrace. Vessels with erotic scenes appeared in the Chimu culture, but usually with human figures. Made of pottery fired under oxygen limited conditions to produce a black surface, which was then polished.
Length 18.7 cm, width 7 cm, height 18.5 cm.
Peru, Chimu culture, 10th-15th century.
Good state of conservation, glued spout, small chip on the handle.
