Easter Island Volcanic Stone Moai Figure, Rapa Nui Mid-c20th

Hand-carved volcanic stone figure in the form of a stylised Moai head-and-shoulders bust, mid-20th century. The porous tuff-like stone and simplified geometric planes clearly evoke the famous monumental statues of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). The figure has a strong profile with long angular nose, heavy brow, slit eyes and prominent lips, with schematic ears carved in relief to each side. The back is simply worked with horizontal tooling, and the underside is roughly finished, showing the natural texture of the stone.

Height: 20.5 cm

Good condition, with minor small losses, weathering and surface wear consistent with age, including a small loss/roughness to one shoulder and scattered tiny pits in the stone as visible in the photos.
