The oversized ears of the Pongdudu mask are pierced with a large hole, like the ears of the Boa people of the east. They were commissioned by Chief Kumu and given to the bravest warriors, the mask having the power to protect the warrior and drive away the enemy. Afterward, it was kept in the wife's hut. Since peace has reigned in the Uele region, these masks are used for the education of young people. The Boa people inhabit the savannah in the north of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
