Antique Persian Silver Mirror, Iranian Islamic Art, Qajar Period

An antique Persian silver-clad mirror from Iran, dating to the late Qajar period, circa 1880–1920. This attractive piece of Islamic art is decorated with repoussé and chased silver floral ornament and retains its original mirror plate.

Rectangular in form, the mirror is covered in repoussé and chased silver sheet decorated with scrolling floral and foliate motifs. The front retains its original mirror plate, surrounded by an elaborate border of decorative cartouches and finely worked ornament. Above the mirror is an arched panel enriched with further floral decoration, while the reverse displays a richly decorated octagonal medallion framed by repeating floral motifs and raised beadwork.

The silver covering is applied over a wooden core, a traditional technique found on Persian luxury domestic objects of the Qajar era. A suspension cord remains attached to the upper edge.

Objects of this type were used as personal mirrors and were often displayed within the home when not in use. They are attractive examples of Persian decorative metalwork and reflect the taste for elaborate floral ornament characteristic of the late Qajar period.

Dimensions: 29.8 cm x 21.2 cm.

Good condition with age-related wear, all consistent with age and use.
