Kukri Old Nepalese Cutlass, Gurkha Knife

This cutlass is a Kukri, originating from Nepal, and dates from the 19th century. It is the traditional weapon of the Gurkhas.
This is not a modern production, nor is it one of the countless kukris with nickel-plated handles and blades mass-produced for tourists during the end of the 20th century…
BLADE : It has the characteristic shape of the model, with a thick, two-sided back. The blade is called "dui chira" because it has two fullers. Near the handle, there is a notch called "kauri," "kauda," or "chô." Authors disagree on the purpose of this notch. In its oldest form, as seen here, it resembles the imprint of a cow's hoof, which evokes Nandi the bull, Shiva's mount, and therefore, of course, Shiva himself.
The presence of this notch, which still holds significance, is interesting. On one face, above this notch, is engraved a representation of Shiva's crescent moon, perhaps surmounted by a lingam.
Blade length = 34 cm, width at widest point 5.2 cm, width near the handle = 3.5 cm, thickness near the handle = 6.8 mm.
HILT = It consists of two wooden scales riveted to the tang. Near the blade, there is a steel bolster, and opposite it, the handle is finished with a steel plate, which is typical of ancient kukris. Note the two small, old grafts near the steel plate that finishes the handle; these are old  repairs from use.
