Hague-decorated Tournai Porcelain Small Plate, Circa 1780

An eighteenth-century Hague (Den Haag) decorated Tournai porcelain small plate, circa 1780, with scalloped edge, central landscape with a building and figures, the lip decorated with baskets of flowers in gilt and enamel and gilt lace.

Marks:
Undergaze blue painted stork mark.
Incised “6”, “9”, or “g”.

Measurements:
Diameter: 18cm
Height: 2.5 cm

Condition: Excellent for age and type. Minimal wear to decoration and gilding, and no surface scratches or crazing. The base rim has a small, shallow chip (see image). No restoration found under examination with ultraviolet light.

Notes: Owned by the Lyncker family, the Hague (Den Haag) Porcelain Factory did not manufacture its own porcelain and instead decorated blanks it bought mainly from the Tournai and Ansbach factories. The decorating studio operated between 1776 and 1791 and marked its wares with a blue painted stork.
