Pair Of Chelsea Porcelain Figures, Red Anchor, Hunter And Lady, Circa 1755
A fine pair of Chelsea porcelain red anchor period figures of a huntsman and lady, c1755, each with a dog by their side, him with a shotgun or musket, both with elaborate decoration and flowering bocage on rococo bases, the undersides of which are unglazed.
Maker’s marks:
Her: Red anchor mark on reverse of base.
Him: Apparently unmarked.
Measurements:
Height (her): 24 cm (9.5 in)
Height (him): 22.5 cm (8.9 in)
Condition:
Both have tight hairlines to their unglazed bases. There is no apparent damage to the figures themselves. However, inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some expert restoration, as follows:
Her: Flaring at her dog’s neck and her right hand. The shoulder of her left arm, under the lapel of her coat. There is faint flaring at her left hand at the wrist, her hat, and the bocage.
Him: Flaring at the fingers of his right hand and lightly on the barrel of his gun. Also at the little finger of his left hand and the edge of the right side of the base.
