"Jean-marie Euzet (1905-1980). Bouquet Of Anemones ~1925. Limoges, Bichet, Musician, Valensi"
Beautiful watercolor by Jean-Marie Euzet representing a still life with anemones around 1925/30, signed lower left. Size of the watercolor alone without frame 30x36cm and 49x55cm including frame. This is therefore a beautiful post-impressionist composition with a Fauvist tendency by Jean-Marie Euzet who paints here a still life with a bouquet of anemones around 1930/35. Produced during his relationship with Charles Bichet, of whom he was his student and friend, Euzet was naturally inspired by his master, how can one not think of Charles Bichet when looking at this work, in the absence of a signature one could almost be confused. Jean-Marie Euzet was born in Sète in 1905, then he came to settle in Limoges where he took classes at the ENAD in Limoges with Charles Bichet. He also took classes at the Limoges Conservatory, then at the Sorbonne where he attended Master Pirro's musicology classes. From 1934 onwards, his painting moved towards Neoplasticism and Cubism and he joined the musicalist movement. At the same time, he was appointed professor at the Limoges Conservatory, and in 1941 he opened an enamel workshop in Limoges with his wife Juliette Euzet. They also created decorations for the ceramist Camille Tharaud. He was then appointed professor at the ENAD in Limoges. He also created cartoons for Aubusson tapestry. At this time his compositions were resolutely abstract and musicalist, he then exhibited alongside his friends Valensi, Louise Janin, Klausz, Lempereur-Haut etc... at the salons "Réalités Nouvelles", Comparaisons, at the Indépendants, Surindépendants, Salon d'Automne, Structures etc... In 1955 he received the Valensi prize for a work which was selected by the Museum of Modern Art of the city of Paris. In 1970 he exhibited enamels at the Galerie la Demeure in Paris. In short, Euzet as an accomplished artist leaves us an important and accomplished work, he is today not only one of the best Limoges artists of the interwar period, but also one of the greatest painters of the Mucicalist movement.
