Large Enamelled Glass Vase, Monjoye - 19th Century
Artist: Montjoye
Spectacular large vase in enameled glass MONTJOYE, Art Nouveau style, late 19th, early 20th century. The glass has a beautiful amethyst (deep purple) hue on the neck and rim, with a very refined gilded effect. The enameled floral decoration, the hand-painted flowers (poppies, daisies, etc.) are typical of the Art Nouveau style. The gilded motifs and the enamel-painted highlights are typical of the Legras & Cie workshops, Mont Joye (Saint-Denis). This type of vase was not always intended to contain water or flowers, but rather to be displayed as an object. HistoryMont Joye was a brand used by the Cristallerie de Saint-Denis, in the Paris region, active in the late 19th century (circa 1880–1910). This house produced enameled and gilded artistic glass, often inspired by nature: flowers, foliage, insects, etc.
