Massier glazed earthenware vase from Vallauris, typical of late 19th - early 20th century Art Nouveau production. The shape is pansu with two small handles on the shoulder and a short, flared neck. This is the "ear vase" silhouette widely used by the Massier family. The decoration is a hand-painted autumnal undergrowth scene: thin birch-like trunks, golden/orange foliage and 2 deer in the foreground. The background is treated in the ochre-cream gradation typical of Vallauris enamels. - Glazed earthenware. Naturalist scenes with animals/birds were a recurring subject.
The Massier dynasty is a family of Vallauris ceramists active since the Revolution. The best-known are Delphin and Clément.
