"Mantel Clock Known As A 19th Century Ball, Signed "
Hello We start the week with this pretty French mantel clock, Louis XV style, enameled cartouches, 19th century rocaille, circa 1860 known as Boulle, with tortoiseshell brass inlays. The gilded bronzes (ornaments, garlands, cherubs, arabesques) are very rich and finely worked, which indicates a piece of very fine craftsmanship. The movement is stamped Samuel Marti and bronze medal. Samuel Marti (1811–1869) was a renowned French clockmaker, based in Montbéliard. His company continued after his death under the name "Samuel Marti et Cie", very active in the 19th century. It obtained several medals at the Universal Exhibitions (1855, 1860, 1889, etc.), which is often mentioned on the movements ("Bronze Medal", "Silver Medal", "Gold Medal").
