Gilded Wooden Mirror In The Baroque Style, Dating From The 19th Century
A beautiful 19th-century Rococo/Baroque style giltwood mirror carved with acanthus leaves. The mirror's unusual shape is highly decorative and slightly asymmetrical, reminiscent of 18th-century French Rococo. The gilding consists of gold leaf applied to the wood and a primer. This type of mirror was very popular in the 19th century (reinterpreting Louis XV/Louis XVI styles), and again in the 20th century for classic and bourgeois interiors – circa 1850.
