Signed 19th-century Art Nouveau Polychrome Terracotta Bust By Goldscheider.

Polychrome terracotta Art Nouveau bust by the Friedrich Goldscheider Manufactory, Vienna, circa 1900–1910. Note the rectangular cartouche featuring a small figure; this is the standard Goldscheider mark used on all terracotta busts of that era. The impressed numbers read 3430 / 89 / 35: ◦ 3430 = model number in the Goldscheider catalogue ◦ 89 = size/series ◦ 35 = decorator/painter number. It bears the inscriptions "REPRODUCTION RESERVEE" and "GOLDSCHEIDER WIEN"—the legal markings the firm placed on the back. The model depicts a young woman wearing a hood, with her draped bust adorned by roses in relief at the base. This is an edition based on a French model; Goldscheider frequently produced works by French sculptors of the time (such as Carrier-Belleuse). The sculpture retains its original polychromy—highly characteristic of Goldscheider—featuring golden-bronze tones and a patinated cold-painted finish. It dates to 1900, the height of the Viennese manufactory's Jugendstil/Art Nouveau period.
