Coffee/tea Set Known As A
Artist: Boulenger Ravinet D’enfert & Cie (orfèvre Français)
A magnificent Art Deco tea/coffee set in silver-plated metal from a prestigious Parisian house. It bears the BRM maker’s mark for Boulenger Ravinet d’Enfert & Cie, a Parisian silversmith renowned for its Art Deco pieces in silver-plated metal. They acquired the Ravinet d’Enfert firm in the 1920s. The “20” hallmark indicates the weight of fine silver used for the silver plating—20 grams of silver per 12 pieces. This was a standard of high quality for French silver-plated metal of the era.
The centerpiece: a freestanding samovar-style serving set, featuring a spout, a teapot, a coffee pot, a milk jug, and a lidded sugar bowl, all presented on a large matching oval tray with rosewood handles and wooden spouts. This wood-and-metal contrast is very typical of French pieces from the 1920s–1930s. The vertical fluting, geometric base, stylized fruit and flower motifs, and symmetry are characteristic of Art Deco.
The central samovar was the star of elegant receptions—tea and coffee were served simultaneously with this type of service.
