Normandy-style Jam Jar, Louis XV / 19th-century Rococo Revival Style

Normandy provincial jam cabinet, Louis XV / Rococo Revival style.

Sideboard made of carved solid oak, with a front richly adorned with floral motifs and volutes, featuring a lovely patina. The style is reminiscent of Louis XV with its scroll-cut panels and carved legs.
Notable features include shell motifs, acanthus leaves, and scalloped panels, along with an octagonal top and base—a rather rare combination... The carvings are carved from solid wood, not applied as separate pieces. The cantilevered legs and the molding on the top are typical of French provincial furniture.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, especially in bourgeois homes and Norman farmhouses, it was used to store jams, jars of honey, dried fruits, and liqueurs. It served as the “chic” pantry for the living room or dining room. Featuring a single door on the front—this octagonal model is a highly sought-after variant with two shelves.
