"Art Deco Coffee Service, Sterling Silver, Delheid Frères, Brussels 1920-1940, Raymond Ruys"
Lovely tea and coffee service in solid hammered silver from the Art Deco period. It came from the workshops of the Delheid brothers in Brussels who produced silverware for the majority of Belgian jewelers. Sometimes their works are even re-marked with the boutique brand of the jewelers in question. The Delheid brothers were, among other things, the manufacturers of the creations of the Antwerp avant-garde artist Raymond Ruys who commissioned them to produce more than a hundred creations of his absolutely incredible and unique designs for the time. Hé had a predilection for organic shapes and hammered surfaces as were usually seen in Scandinavia at that time but which made him quite unique in the Belgian and French artistic landscape. This service which does not bear his hallmark but that of the Delheid brothers demonstrates that the Delheid brothers did not remain completely insensitive to his influence and that they also rarely published silverware in the same taste. These pieces are very rare on the market because not quite to the taste of the Belgian Francophile public, they were hardly a commercial success. The top is made up of a thick hammered silver rim which surrounds a wooden base veneered with Thuya burl and rosewood.
