"Large 19th Century Impressionist Canvas...the Spinning Shepherdess & Her Flock...signed?"
Large and beautiful impressionist canvas from the end of the 19th century which represents a luminous countryside landscape with a shepherdess spinning her wool while watching over her flock of sheep... The work has a trace of a signature at the bottom right which would merit investigation to try to identify the author / see details in the photos... note: the atmosphere and the beautiful quality of this work suggest an artist close to Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) who had the particularity of painting rural scenes using the luminous touch of the impressionists. The track of an excellent painter seems all the more credible as the canvas has on the reverse the stamp "TASSET & LHOTE" a merchant of colors who exercised his activity in Paris between 1887 & 1899, that is to say in full period of the impressionist & post-impressionist movement: the Musée d'Orsay devotes to this merchant a chapter entitled Guillaume Charles Tasset (1843 - 1925) because he was the personal friend of the famous painter Edgar Degas (1834-1917) but also the supplier of colors of Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890)... - This painting has never been examined by an expert but objectively many elements plead in favor of an excellent painter / advice to research enthusiasts - - foresee a restoration for some lacks (top right) and old repaints bottom right, quite basic to correct by someone professional - Canvas size: 54 cm x 41 cm Frame (shocks & missing): 76 cm x 64 cm - ask me for other photos if necessary-
