The deity is cast in bronze using the lost wax method, and is probably Aiyanar, the protective god of fields and villages in southern India. She holds her weapons in her four arms. Pronounced patina and wear due to handling and the fervent caresses of worshippers. The rider separates from his mount, to which he is held by a long bronze tenon. These bronze deities were produced in southern India from the 17th to the 19th century. Without an engraved inscription, it is impossible to date them exactly; curators and experts cautiously predict them to be from the 18th century. The statuette of Aiyanar presented here is probably from this period. One hand is missing. Height: 17cm.
