Green Glazed Terracotta Candlestick. China, Tang Dynasty, 8th Century.
Artist: Tang
A potter's wheel-thrown candlestick glazed with a thick, mottled green lead glaze, creating a beautiful effect. Firing it upside down resulted in attractive glaze drips. The underside reveals the pinkish-beige clay and traces of the throwing process. The candlestick has a simple yet striking form. It exhibits numerous firing flaws, chips, and pieces of clay stuck together. Chinese work from the Tang Dynasty, 8th-9th century. Height: 165 mm. No repairs.
