"Great Dogon Horseman Mali"
Superb Dogon horseman from Mali. The statues of horsemen among the Dogons represent the ancient venerated chiefs, who were the only ones to own a horse, these statues attracted their protection for a village or a rich family. These have a rich dark patina, dry, slightly crusty, the wood is worn and attests to its antiquity (probably late 19th or early 20th). The whole is harmonious, finely carved in a very hard and heavy wood, the rider seems to take a weapon from his quiver, the statues are in good general condition, wear and stains, but no lack. Height 58 cm. Note its beautiful stylized and minimalist form, a superb work of art from my personal collection which fits into all styles, classic or very modern!
