Large Anatomical Preparation Of A Human Arm And Hand, Fragonard Style – Under Glass - 19th Century
Large anatomical preparation of a human arm and hand, Fragonard style – under glass dome – 19th century
Impressive and rare human anatomical preparation, probably from a 19th century anatomy or medical curiosities cabinet, in the style of the famous écorchés by Honoré Fragonard.
Description
It represents a complete human arm ending in the hand, meticulously dissected to highlight the painted vascular network (arteries in red, veins in blue), as well as the skeleton and ligaments.
The anatomical details, notably the arrangement of the tendons and the fineness of the phalanges, bear witness to exceptional dissection work, probably intended for medical teaching.
The piece is presented on a turned support in blackened wood and brass, numbered "53" by an engraved brass plaque, and protected by a tall, slender cylindrical globe in blown glass with a domed base, typical of 19th-century museum presentations.
This type of preparation, now extremely rare on the market, is similar to the specimens produced by medical schools and by anatomical preparers of the time, in a spirit that was both scientific and aesthetic.
Height of the preparation 50 cm
Height of the globe 60 cm
Condition:
Well-preserved preparation, with original patina, globe in perfect condition, some traces of use on the base.
Provenance: probably a doctor's office or university.
Exceptional collector's item, at the crossroads of the history of medicine and cabinets of curiosities
