This elegant Neo-Gothic reliquary casket, crafted in the 19th century from gilt bronze, forms a miniature architectural structure inspired by the Flamboyant Gothic style.
Description:
The structure rests on a rectangular base with spherical feet and comprises small columns and an openwork gallery of richly molded, trefoil-shaped gables, evoking the façade of a religious building.
The relic is displayed under glass on three sides, within a deep red textile setting. It consists of a substantial bone fragment identified by an old handwritten label bearing the inscription “S. Barthelemi,” corresponding to Saint Bartholomew, the Apostle.
The relic is enhanced by a remarkable ornamental decoration of gilt cannetille, metallic threads, and blue glass beads, forming floral and radiating motifs typical of 19th-century devotional mounts.
The whole piece testifies to meticulous piety, intended to magnify the presence of the reliquary. This piece, both architectural and devotional, possesses a striking visual presence and is representative of 19th-century Neo-Gothic religious art.
Dimensions: Length: 27 cm x Height: 25.5 cm x Depth: 11.5 cm.
Condition:
Good overall condition with wear and patina consistent with age; slight movement of the internal decorative elements does not detract from the relic's appearance.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred work of art.
The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
