Toul Earthenware Inkwell Signed Henri Calot – 1890 Lorraine

Rare polychrome Toul earthenware inkwell, dated and dedicated by the Lorraine artist Henri Calot (1857-1935). A piece of eventful shape with rocaille decoration, enhanced with floral garlands and golden threads. Finely painted central monogram "V". The inkwell has two ink cups with lids and a central compartment for quills, all resting on a large bowl decorated with a scattering of flowers on a checkered background. On the reverse, handwritten inscription: "To my dear Valentine, souvenir of St Alfred's Day in 1890. H. Calot". Some small accidents and wear from use, without detracting from the aesthetics or the solidity of the piece. Complete with all its elements.
