Large Bronze Planter / Japanese Hibachi – Murakami Hiko – Meiji
Large Japanese planter made of patinated bronze, which can also be used as a planters or a hibachi, dating from the Meiji period, late 19th century.
A beautiful, large-scale piece, richly decorated with two cranes in high relief, depicted moving around the body of the planter within a naturalistic setting. The bronze work is particularly detailed, featuring a beautiful antique patina and decorative elements in relief.
The piece bears a Japanese stamp identified as 村上彦製造 – murakami hiko seizō, indicating it was produced by Murakami Hiko, a bronze artist associated with Kyoto during the Meiji era.
This mark, along with the quality of the decoration and the piece’s dimensions, make it a particularly interesting item for collectors of Japanese bronzes from the Meiji era.
