Antique Wooden And Wrought-iron Yoke For Carrying Buckets – Folk Art – 19th Century

An antique men’s yoke, also known as a bucket carrier or water carrier’s yoke, made of carved wood with its original iron fittings and long wrought-iron suspension rods. It was used to carry two buckets or tubs on either side of the shoulders before the advent of running water systems. This type of object is emblematic of the water carrier’s trade and 19th-century rural life.

A beautiful piece of folk art featuring a superb patina from use. The metal fittings are original, and the piece has retained its authentic condition. There are old traces of wood-boring insects, which do not affect the piece’s structural integrity. Highly decorative in a characterful interior, country home, or collection of craft objects.
