This small rectangular box, made of horn, tortoiseshell, and ivory, dates from the late 19th century and is of fine quality in both craftsmanship and presentation. The lid is adorned with simple and balanced marquetry, composed of a central tortoiseshell lozenge and ivory corner pieces—a discreet yet refined decoration characteristic of the period.
The vertical faces have a very subtle, slight curve that breaks the rigidity of the form and lends the whole a restrained elegance.
The rear hinge is original and functional. The lid closes perfectly on its axis, but leaves a tiny gap of one millimeter, which does not detract from the box's attractive appearance.
The overall condition is good, with a soft and even patina consistent with age.
A small object with a real presence, ideal for a display case, a desk, or a collection of antique boxes.
