Alain Girel (1945–2001) French ceramist and sculptor Alain Girel is a major figure in contemporary French ceramics. Born in 1945 into a family of artisans, he discovered working with clay at a very early age and devoted himself to it fully. At the crossroads of art and craftsmanship, his work is characterized by an organic style, deep glazes, and sculptural forms, often inspired by nature and Asian traditions. He regularly collaborates with major luxury and interior design houses, notably Hermès, for whom he creates unique pieces combining technical rigor and artistic flair. His work has been praised by numerous institutions, and he is a winner of the Grand Prix National des Métiers d'Art. His works are now featured in several public and private collections, in France and abroad.
