"Rocaille Style Solid Silver Jardinière, Germany, Brückmann & Sohn, Circa 1880 "
Rocaille style planter in solid silver, Germany, Brückmann & Sohn, circa 1880 Large Rocaille style planter in solid 800 thousandths silver, oval in shape, resting on four arched feet with leafy scrolls. The mount is richly decorated with gadroons, volutes, acanthus leaves and two large rocaille cartouches containing a monogram engraved on either side. The style is typical of the German historicist taste of the late 19th century, with high-quality execution. The planter retains its removable inner tray in silver-plated brass, fitted with two small movable ring-shaped handles. This system makes it easy to manipulate the interior to compose bouquets or arrange plants without direct contact with the silver. The bottom of the inner tray shows visible signs of wear, revealing the brass. The set is hallmarked with the title 800 for solid silver, as well as with the hallmark of the important Brückmann & Sohn factory, active in Heilbronn (Germany) from the beginning of the 19th century and renowned for the quality of its table and decorative silverware pieces.
