A Swiss Enamelled Gold Snuff-box

Rectangular snuff-box with rounded corners, the cover inset with a finely painted enamel plaque depicting Virgil reading the Aeneid to Octavia and Augustus, framed within a taille d’épargne enamel border of laurel leaves. The sides and base are decorated with deep blue and black enamel panels over diaper-patterned engine-turning, further enhanced at each corner with taille d’épargne acanthus leaf motifs in gold.
