"Broken Louis XV Period Game Table In Blackened Wood."
Elegant Louis XV period game table in blackened walnut, resting on four arched legs ending in finely chiseled bronze slippers in the shape of foliage, placed on flattened balls. This charming living room furniture, both practical and refined, transforms according to use: in the closed position, it forms a discreet console to place against a wall; in the open position, it becomes a game table accommodating cards or board games. The belt, straight in plan and scalloped on the four sides, slides to allow the spacing of the base. The top then opens by rotating and folding to reveal a game board covered with green cloth. This transforming system is called a "broken square game table with sliding belt", as listed in the typological vocabulary of Nicole de Reyniès (Domestic Furniture, vol. 1, Imprimerie nationale, Éditions du patrimoine, p. 398–399). The top has rounded front corners and a sober geometric marquetry decoration: a diamond in inlaid mahogany fillets. The interior is mounted in fir, a structure typical of furniture used in the 18th century.
