Early 19th Seville Earthenware Important Jug With Trilobed Neck
Artist: Ateliers Sévillans Espagne
CERAMICS / FOLK ART
Important Spanish ceramic pitcher
Produced by SEville area workshops early 19th century.
This folk art pitcher is clearly reminiscent in its chromatic range (powerful blue, bright yellow and vibrant green), its zoomorphic decoration (bird, horse and dog ?) and its technique (heavy and thick ceramic) of the large LEBRILLO dishes made on same time in south of Spain (please check my Proantic sales for a similar dish - and last photo of this ad)
The trilobed neck made by pinching the raw earth before firing refers to an old traditional form, very common in Spain, particularly in the 17th century.
Very good condition, without breakage, chip or restoration. Note some minor enamel chips on the edge of the neck of the pitcher.
Very large dimensions !
31.5 cm high
* 20 cm diameter (with handle) and
* 15.5 cm diameter (without handle)
