Large German stoneware pitcher with salt glaze.
Late 16th or early 17th century.
Particularly noteworthy are the visible traces of the potter's intervention on his ceramic, with the striations corresponding to his throwing manufacturing process (the shape was modeled by the potter using a rotating table in order to gradually give it its final form). The master potter's thumb marks are still present on the rim of the pitcher at its foot, giving it perfect stability.
These elements linked to the pottery manufacturing process directly contribute to the aesthetics of the pitcher.
