Carved And Gilded Wall Shelf – Florence, Mid-19th Century
Charming Florentine wall shelf from the mid-19th century, entirely hand-carved from solid wood and finely gilded with gold leaf. The piece features an exceptionally refined carving work, with leafy and rocaille motifs inspired by the Baroque style, reflecting the lingering influence of late 18th-century Florentine craftsmanship.
The design includes scrolling cartouche-like volutes that curve and wrap upon themselves with great skill, creating an elegant three-dimensional effect with remarkable undercut detailing. The upper shelf has a shaped, molded edge, while the lower section is adorned with leafy scrolls that add movement and vertical grace.
A decorative yet functional piece, made to be wall-mounted – perfect for displaying small bronzes, porcelain figures, or antique busts.
